Publish financial data to Excel

Use a managed Excel output when finance users need repeatable Control data in a workbook. A configured output replaces ad hoc exports and copy-paste updates with a defined connector, workbook target, and synchronization workflow.

Before you begin

  • Verify the source data, mappings, and statement result you intend to publish.
  • Identify the destination workbook and sheets.
  • Decide who owns the workbook structure and who reviews published values.
  • Confirm that the output should refresh an existing reporting workflow rather than create a one-time export.
An output reflects the upstream data and configuration available when it runs. Fix unexpected numbers in their source, mapping, consolidation, or statement stage before publishing them to Excel.

Configure the workbook output

From the Data Outputs area, create or select a workbook-backed output. Configure the connector, workbook destination, sheet targets, and synchronization behavior required by the reporting workflow. Use the preview-first configuration to inspect the proposed tabs and output structure before publishing. AI-assisted sheet configuration can speed up the initial mapping, but review the result before workbook users rely on it. Checkpoint: Each output section has an intentional destination and the preview matches the financial scope the workbook expects.

Publish and verify

After running the output:
  1. Review the output status and completion time in Control.
  2. Open the destination workbook and confirm that the expected sheets were updated.
  3. Reconcile at least one material total with the corresponding Control view.
  4. Check that headers, periods, entities, and dimensions appear in the intended structure.
  5. Confirm that workbook formulas or downstream references still point to the correct ranges.
Do not treat a completed connector run as proof that the workbook is financially correct. Verify the delivered values and the workbook behavior that depends on them.

Maintain the output

Review the configuration when:
  • the workbook adds, removes, or renames sheets;
  • the source statement structure changes;
  • new entities or dimensions enter the reporting scope;
  • a recurring workbook formula no longer matches the delivered layout;
  • output users report stale or missing data.
If the workbook is stale, verify upstream data freshness first, then the output run. Re-running an output does not fix an upstream source or mapping issue.
