# Connect read-only financial reporting

> Connect an AI client to consolidated financial statements and cash flow in a selected Control workspace.

Control's reporting connector lets you ask an AI client about consolidated financial statements,
monthly cash flow, and your workspace's reporting structure.

<Note>
Public directory availability depends on the client. Use a directory listing only when Control appears there. This
guide also covers custom connections to the reporting connector.
</Note>

## Before you connect

You need a Control account with access to the intended workspace, synchronized accounting data,
and an AI client that supports remote MCP connections with OAuth. The client may require a paid
plan or administrator approval for custom connectors.

Set up accounting integrations inside Control. Never enter accounting-provider credentials in an
AI conversation or a connector's tool arguments.

## Connect your workspace

1. Open your AI client's connector settings. If Control is listed in its directory, select it.
For a custom connection, use `https://api.control.dev/api/mcp/marketplace`.
2. Start the connection and sign in to Control in the authorization window.
3. Review the requested access and select the workspace the connector may read.
4. Return to the AI client and confirm that the connection completes.
5. Ask which entities are available and verify that they belong to your intended workspace.

If the authorization window does not offer the workspace you need, stop and check your membership
in Control. Do not add workspace identifiers to the server URL, prompts, or request headers.

## What you can ask

* Compare consolidated profit and loss across reporting periods.
* Summarize a balance sheet, functional P\&L, or custom statement.
* Review monthly consolidated cash flow.
* Find report layouts, group accounts, dimensions, or report lines.
* List available budgets and forecasts by their metadata.

Use dates covered by your accounting data. For example: “Show the consolidated P\&L for June 2025
and compare it with May 2025.” Check the answer's period and scope against the same report in Control.

This connector is read-only. It cannot create or edit financial records, budgets, mappings, or
integrations. It does not retrieve individual transactions, counterparties, invoices, receipts,
or budget values. Use Control directly when you need those capabilities.

## Workspace access and data handling

Access is tied to the workspace selected during authorization and remains subject to your Control
permissions. To use another workspace, disconnect and authorize a new connection for that workspace.

The AI client receives the reporting data it requests through the available tools. Its own terms
and privacy policy govern its handling of that data. See Control's
[Privacy Policy](https://www.control.dev/legal/privacy-policy/) and
[Trust Center](https://trust.control.dev/) for Control's practices.

## Disconnect and get help

Remove the connector in your AI client's settings. If you need help revoking access or if requests
continue after disconnecting, follow the
[connection troubleshooting and support guide](/product-docs/ai/mcp-support).

For broader tools available through a workspace-specific connection, see
[Connect an AI client with MCP](/product-docs/ai/mcp-server).
